We happened to be down in the Potomac River valley over the weekend, spooking around some of the crops planted in a wildlife management area. As the sun fell through the trees, it lit up an otherwise invisible layer of misty, dusty semi-fog hovering six feet or so above some young wheat. Looks almost like lens flare, but that glowing orange wisp was hundreds of yards long. Quite a sight. Here, we're looking at it through a deer trail break in a hedgerow. Spring! Got any, on this fine Nikon Wednesday?

00dtP2-562497684.jpg.293f1298d7325856087330de246372ba.jpg

An amaryllis that I inherited from my mother has flowered after being dormant for two years. And what a gorgeous flower it is, now that it's finally shown itself. I tried to capture the iridescence of its petals, but despite being clearly visible in the viewfinder it didn't appear in the captured image. Very strange. I might try the higher resolution D800 next time, but I only had the D700 to hand.

The biggest joy in my dog's life, swimming and fetching sticks. Fetching is a very loosely defined concept in his mind. Apparently bringing the stick to the bank suffices, followed by energetic barking at the stick, as if I do not know it has returned.

00dtRQ-562506884.jpg.0bbcea150db61ddecde5c768b02ee7d2.jpg

Wednesday forum has such a variety of images and they are all very good. Thanks for sharing. Spring here in southern Quebec looks like late fall - no leaves with the exception that the days tend to be brighter. Most of the trees are bare with very small evidence of some new growth.A couple of days ago I went down to the St. Lawrence river bank and the subtle evidence of Spring is that the waters have much more velocity and I tried a few shots. It was challenging because I wanted a slow shutter speed for the water motion but the waters were pushing against a fallen tree trunk that was stationary causing intermittent motion in the log. I ran off a few shots with continuous High shutter in the hope that one might be acceptable.

00dtSO-562509784.jpg.19e5a88fb371a62c77fda6ad5a9e1fec.jpg
