Brad Cloven
Leslie:

That's a "Ringer" from way-back around 2005. I got really lucky. I saw the "backlit grass" theme going on, so I brought that out of the closet. :-)

Part of the trick on that one is the lens. That 105 is one of the legendary pieces of glass, and I traded several until I got a perfect one with no dust. Then, I pointed it so that the hood would just barely cover up enough of the front glass so the likelihood of flare was minimized. I had it anchored to a Manfrotto XPROB 055, which gave me perfect control and stability. Plus, G-d and North Dakota gave me those conditions, I just happened to show up (which is 80% of life).

Then, I just got plain lucky. I've only recently improved from being a lousy to a mediocre photographer. My goal this year is to become approximately "decent."

I really liked your "Teasel". As I scrolled down the page, that caught my eye and made me stop to admire the composition, detail, out of focus areas, and correct exposure of the plant (in relation to the requirement to have blown-out sky under those conditions).

Pinklather
GeorgeS - Thank You. 'Glad they had some appeal.
I had to look up what a Bush Pressman was, and it looks similar to the Graflex w/ what looks like a more robust front standard. It sure delivers the goods - tilt or no.

Brad, thoroughly like the floral shot.

ralf_j.
So - for this weekend, messed around with a beautiful old EKTAR Projection lens and rigged it on a crappy m42 Japanese aftermarket lens which had an in-tact focusing helicoid after a couple of hours of messing around, and some heavy use of Loctite glue, managed to get it together :-)

ralf_j. Argenticien
Doug, I love those locomotive detail pictures. As is almost always the case, medium format + black and white + anything railroad = wow. What emulsion was that?
--Dave
Pinklather
Dave, These were all FP4, though some of the small format stuff is interesting on HP5. Avg. exposure was about 20 sec. All souped in PyroHD, semi-stand. 'Glad they were pleasing.
