christy_davis1
Hi-

I'm going to be shooting a wedding in Santorini, Greece. I am in Colorado. The wedding planner in Santorini said I would need the proper permits or documentation. Does anyone have any idea what I need to shoot a single wedding in Santorini legally. I don't want to get into any trouble. I've contacted the U.S. Embassy in Athens, they sent me to the Greek Embassy in Los Angeles...still waiting to hear back from them. Does anyone know exactly what is needed for me to shoot one wedding in Greece?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I have scoured the internet for an answer but found nothing.

Christy
William Michael
I think contacting the Greek Embassy will allow you to get the information and necessary documentation about working in Greece.

Consider the possibility that there might be local requirements too. (Just as an illustration - if you were to be shooting this wedding in Sydney, then you might require documents from the Australian Government to allow you to work in Australia: but if you wanted to shoot some of the Bridal Portraiture at the Sydney Harbour Foreshore, then you would need a locally issued and paid for licence to shoot those images, otherwise you would risk of an "on the spot fine" for the infraction.)

It is this second area where the Wedding Planner could assist you. Has the Wedding Planner been more helpful, other than simply saying to you, "you need the proper permits or documentation"?

It occurs to me that the Wedding Planner likely would know exactly what, if any, documentation is required for the local area, or, if not, surely, if s/he is experienced in this field then s/he would at least have an outline and also have some local contacts to get the ball rolling for you.

However, considering the general state of various of the world's economies: the cynical side of business experience would lead me to consider that the Wedding Planner might not be inclined to provide benefit to one who is seen to be taking work away from the local professionals.

WW

savagesax
Are you charging money? If so it gets very complicated. For sure you need proof of a US business, just to transfer money/checks from their bank to your bank. Banks suck and often charge lots of money. Like $100 to convert the money, plus they don't give you the true value of the euro exchange exchange. I think Greece uses euro's, not positive. My advice is to get the wedding party and yourself signed up with paypal accounts. Yes Paypal charges, but it's pennies on the dollar. Follow William's advice and contact the embassy. The country Greece is broke. They have no money. They filed bankruptcy about a year ago. The government laws are probably changing daily regarding people entering the country and doing business. I would think that taxes will be high. Hope this helps. Do your homework carefully.
jenny_smith11
I agree that you should "do your homework" but here's a quick tip: Since Santorini is a destination very popular for weddings nowadays, you can check those "destination wedding agencies" or even Instagram and try to connect with photographs that already had a shooting over there. Both Instagram and one agency helped me to connect with few photographers that gave me useful advice when I did a shooting in Budapest. Good luck and let us see the pics from Santorini after :)
