marker
I am going to Finland the 16. of may to the 25. My plans are to get a car i Helsingki and drive to Lemmenjoki, where I have lent a cabin for a week. The trip from Helsingki to Inari is about 1000km, so I think it is wise to make a night stopover. What is, in a photografical sense, nice to see, and which route will you recomand. Thanks a lot - Thise advices are the best about Photo.net Best regards Thomas Marker
prosenjit_singha_deo
hi, finland is a wonderful country. in may the lakes could be still frozen. days will be long, sky will be blue and mountains will be beginning to get green. if you want blue sky, blue lakes, green forests and mountains then wait till july-august. the whole of finland is very scenic and you can take any way. i am afraid that you are going during a transition period when there wont be enough snow and wont be enough green. horizons are clear and scenic and look out for sunrise and sunset. ilkka_nissila
I would definitely recommend that you take the road from Helsinki to Lappeenranta (which is boring in itself but quick), and then drive through the lakes in Eastern Finland (starting from Taipalsaari) towards Kuopio. Visit Punkaharju. From Kuopio to Kuusamo, and then to your final destination. You could probably stay the night in Kuopio, there are some nice hotels there. I cannot say much about Lapland as I've only been there twice! (Shame on me, I know.) It's true that the timing is probably not ideal as much of Finland will just be recovering from the winter. June would be better perhaps, but with more insects! May is good for wildflowers. You will probably see some snow in the North so be prepared. :-)
