Classic Manual Camera Weekend, April 29

Recommended Posts

A little later than usual, but still in plenty of time for everyone to participate in our weekend thread. Another roll of Panatomic-x (stopped to reply to a text while developing and went a little overtime on the film) This is why I usually do not take my cell phone with me to the darkroom

00duMW-562680384.jpg.2939565c454123757b028b5d16688650.jpg

I've been a little under the weather, so to speak, so another vintage picture taken with a Classic Manual Camera on Ektachrome 32 ASA film in the summer of 19-ought-and-60.

View is of the partly restored late prehistoric Mandan On-A-Slant village near Mandan, ND, and the Missouri River.

Two panorama frames, but only combined in Photoshop today. Contrast was manipulated to restore the faded originals somewhat.

00duMd-562680784.jpg.63980eb4f931f87f7cf9d56ca8e24fbe.jpg

Hello again everyone. Here is one from the 2nd roll of Ultrafine Max (UFMax) I am test-driving. Once again at the Tulalip Marina with the Solinett. Film rated at 320 asa but this time the development time in the OA was dropped 2 minutes (to 15) to control the contrast build up that this film exhibits. G filter was used. V600 scan. Remaining 3 rolls will be with the K1000 & various lenses. Enjoy, Bill
That Clack is rockin Georg...puts a WA on a 4x5 to shame !

00duMo-562680884.jpg.5b624f8411867b5b02e4fbb053267ca7.jpg

Bill, I like the tonality you're getting out of this film. But to be honest, I prefer the "full frontal view" of this fishing vessel posted on the last thread.

Thanks for your kind words on the Clack-shot. At least my example needs punchy contrasts to deliver a nice image.

So do I, but did not want to "repeat" myself...just wanted to hit the 50 for the thread. The beauty of the 35mm format is the numbers and speed to move about. This roll was used on a tripod, but I still needed 1/50 @ f16 for sharpness. Flood tide and wonki pier decking did not allow HH.
Jacking up the contrast control in post production will not always save ones bacon. I use a modified Zone System with ALL my work, so 99% of the time I control PP darkness so that the Zone 7-8 values just show texture. Generally, the shadow areas will fall into place with Zone 3, perhaps 2. Also, I do not have any "burning" ability with this editor, so the Zone System rules.
What ever you did with the Clack would please AA to the core. Bill

The comment about punchy contrasts was about the subject itself, not the printing (or developing). The expired Tri-X was overexposed and it's base a bit fogged too, but it's hard to get a completely un-printable negative with Tri-X in Diafine.
Right now I'm wading through a wild mixture of expired and fresh films and papers, exposed with fairly accurate working cameras sometimes and extremely simple cameras the other day.
Will try to establish a simplified Zone-system-routine later, after selecting two or three films for all my needs.
Thanks again, Georg.

Here's another one from the Clack, not a scan, just a snap of the print in the fix (always love the first longer view on a fresh print).

Hello again. All my tripods have a 2nd interchangeable shoe so I can "drag" two cameras along during each session. When testing the first roll of the new 35mm film with the Solinette, it was ez to replace that camera and put the MF Ercona II (6x9) onto the tripod and "dupe" with it. This time it was 400 Delta @ 320 asa in the Ercona. OA development and V600 scan. Bill

00duO2-562683584.jpg.811217f335f8f11c3ddd45b2e1abc022.jpg

Fun with a Kodak Auto Graflex RB with Ross London 7-1/2" f/4.5 Xpress lens from 1916, and some Kodak Vericolor Print Film (4111), exposed as 10ASA and pushed 3 stops in HC-110 B for 11 minutes at 20C.

Is this a thread for anyone to post what they have taken this week?
If so, found a man balancing rocks down at St Ives.
Agat 18k - Afga Vista ASA 200
Using up all the colour film I have this bank holiday so I can start developing b&w myself over summer holidays. That is the plan anyway!
