Primes, of course, give you the best quality but sometimes the composition you want and the available location to take it from falls in-between available prime focal lengths, but this is more common on the wide end. If I had the money, I'd get the 24-70E today but I'd still need something wider to go with it.<br> Right now, I generally use the 18-35 (fairly wide, light, and VERY sharp), the 50 1.8 and the Tamron 90 macro. Three lenses but it covers 18mm-90mm pretty well, is lighter than the 24-70, and (and this is important) gives me macro. Very often when out shooting landscapes, macro opportunities present themselves so I'm good to go. It's only one more lens than if I had the 24-70 + wider lens but gives me more reach while opening up related photo opportunities. I'm looking to add a 70-200 asap.
