I asked this question:

So now that my D60 has been discontinued - how long will Canon

support it? How long will firmware updates be coming?

And got this response:

Dear Robert,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, we have not been informed that the D60 has been

discontinued. "At this moment there is no information available

regarding a new product announcement in this category. Please keep in

mind however, that Canon continuously reviews it's product lineup and as

new products are introduced, existing models are often taken out of

production. We recommend you check our website from time to time to

learn of new announcements."

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

It's standard "marketspeak". If Canon USA have not been told by Canon Japan that it's OK to say the D60 has been discontinued, they cannot officially say it has.

As far as I know Canon USA are still silent. The only "offical" Canon statements seem to have come though reliable 3rd parties quoting Canon France and Canon Australia. However I don't think even thay have made any official announcements yet.

Wait for PMA. In one month from now it should all be clear.

The next time you email or call their tech support keep this in mind. Kind of puts things in perspective:

I called Canon about the 400mm F/4 DO lens when I saw an article in Popular Photography about it. I'm guessing, but I think it was around September 2000. The representative never heard of the lens. Not only that she asked if I would fax her a copy of the article!!

Also remember that the aversge Canon employeee is just that - an employee. They may have zero personal interest in photography and the only things they know about are those things which the company has told them about. They probably don't read Popular Photography or surf photo.net. They probably know less about photography than you do. If they knew a whole lot more they probably wouldn't be staffing the consumer help desk, they'd be doing some more technical job.

Here's the telltale sign for me... the D60 has been removed from B&H's web site in the last day or two... the D30 is still listed with 'discontinued' as it has been to show the accessories, but the D60 which has been sold out by them for a while is gone.
