Which firewire cable for Nikon D1x

I'm sorry I do not have a direct answer to your question, but I do have a concern about the data reliability on that cable. The max theoretical length of a cable using Firewire 400 is 4.5 m which is approx 14 feet. You're awefully, close to the theoretical limit of that length. You may want to contact Nikon to confirm that this will actually work reliably.

As an interesting sidebar, the newly released Firewire 800 (www.apple.com/firewire), in addition to being twice as fast, also has a cable limit of 328 feet (100m) in burst mode. But off course, this doesn't help you one bit right now.

May I ask if you're using MS Windows with your 5m cable? I can't get it to work on a used D1X, but have read countless tales of woe on the internet about Firewire cables being blocked as a 'bad thing' by Windows from XP SP2 onwards.

Still hopeful of finding anyone who actually runs this seemingly Mary Celeste-like website so I may change my registered email address
