Canon 85mm 1.5 (who is using such a lens?)

<p>I decided a few days ago to use (again) my old Canon 85mm 1.5 rangefinder lens. It is a heavy lens that is not easy to focus quickly. Depending how good your eyesight is, I find it difficult to get it in perfect focus when the light is dim and when the camera does not have a magnified focus assist, such as found in the Olympus E-PL1, say.<br />I used my Leica M9 with the lens here.<br>

Brian Sweeney told me that this lens has the same design as his Simlar5cm 1.5.</p>

<p>I would definitely be using this lens on my M9 with the 1.4x magnifier. At closer distances with my M9 it can be hard getting either the 90mm f2 Summicron and/or 135mm f4 Tele Elmar in perfect focus with the lens set wide open.</p>

<p>I loved my 85/1.5 when I had it, and it's about the only lens I made a mistake selling, but yes, it's big, heavy, and hard to use. Yes, it is.</p>

<p>I do like that speed with 85mm. I never did buy anything that fast for Leica except with 50mm lenses. </p>

<p>The lens is very well built. Most likely, it is a much better built lens than a Samyang 85mm/1.4, say.<br>

Not that many 85/1.5 Canon lenses were built, so it is an uncommon lens. </p>
