Hello Nikon people, and a Happy New Year to all on this first 2016 Nikon Wednesday. A bittersweet posting for me, as we've just lost our big old bird dog, Saga, who helped to re-ignite my interest in photography when he came home with us way back in the summer of 2001. He was one well-photographed German Shorthaired Pointer, and was the ambassador that led me to many adventures, photographic and otherwise. He'll be greatly missed, but led a long and happy life worth celebrating. He's pictured here a few years back, still in his prime. No condolences, please! Just remember to make lots of photographs of the people and other creatures that enrich your life. Here's to a creatively photographed 2016 - share some photos!

00dffK-560083584.jpg.741390dec6aad948d48cd602870eb03c.jpg

Looking at Matt's dog photos on this forum, I was inspired to try dog portraits myself this week. Never realized how challenging the task was to get the subjects to cooperate. Persistence is very necessary. My black dogs are difficult to photograph other than a black blob, so I finally acquired a black background and lights and embarked on a learning experience.

00dfgp-560089684.jpg.015ae9afbece238da0957b216e682d3c.jpg

Not many critters at the moment, and as the following picture suggests, we're a little short on pets too.

Steve Murray's shots remind me of a local dog I used to pass on bicycle rides some years ago. One day it got out, and began furiously chasing after me. I thought dire thoughts as this aging but wickedly fast border collie gained on me. When he got abreast, he passed me, and at the very edge of his owner's property, veered off and plopped down under a tree, panting. I was afraid he'd have a heart attack, so after that, I just relaxed and let him win.

00dfk7-560096384.jpg.fbdd4f0813223b0abbae6e6848225505.jpg
