clint_burhans
Hello All,

I am pretty camera literate, but was given my first Hasselblad recently. I read the manual and put a coupe of rolls through that came out well. I am now in Algonquin Park and when I load a roll, which I am still a bit clumsy at, it winds to 1, will shoot, then winds through to end of roll. I have gone over the manual, re-loaded a ruined roll a few times, and it still goes to one, stops, cock and shoot, then winds happily through to end of roll. Am I, or have I done something wrong or is my free back broken?
Any help appreciated; hoped to shoot film tomorrow!
douglas_fairbank
I think the problem may be that you are trying to advance the film frame by frame with the winder on the film magazine. Starting with a cocked camera you load the film to the number 1 position and then just take pictures winding only the camera. Don't wind the magazine again until you get to the end of the roll and you wind it off.
Film back manuals are available here, http://www.butkus.org/chinon/hasselblad/hasselblad_a12_a24/hasselblad_a12_a24.htm
The old Hasselblad website used to have all the manuals free to download but I don't think you can from the new website.
clint_burhans
Douglas,
Well, that is embarrassing; I have been shooting, from 8x10, to 35, since the 80s, but my medium-format has been all Pentax 6x7, and the Mamiya RB67, which has separate cocking and winding. I was, as you suggest, cocking with the crank then winding the already-advanced film right on through. Operator error!
Thank you for the quick, accurate, and complete response!
stephen t
Easy mistake to make. Rest assured you aren't the only one, especially with a new camera!
