markslater
I have had a D300s for approx. 3 years and for a short time have not used it. On recharging the battery and putting it in the camera for use I find that the on/off switch and display are not registering, has anyone else had this problem or could suggest what is causing this to occur?
michael_bradtke
If you have a second battery I would give that a try.
howard_m
yup, try another battery. if you're the 2nd owner of the D300, realize that the battery is getting on in age and that's never a good thing for batteries. You might also want to take a pencil eraser to the battery contacts.
ShunCheung
Right, perhaps you battery is dead, or perhaps the charger is dead.

markslater
I have tried another battery, battery power is fine, charger is working could problem be with the switch?
ShunCheung
Unless you can test those batteries on another DSLR such as another D300, D700, D90 ..., it is hard to be sure that the batteries and charger are fine. See Tim Holte's problem from 2009, but I have to say that charger problems are quite uncommon:

http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00UyDy

http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00VJE9

Other than that, I would shine a flashlight into the battery compartment to check for any leak or oxidation problem. If the camera itself is faulty, I am afraid that you need to send it in for a repair estimate. At this point, any D300/D300S might not be economical to repair.
