frank_bunnik
Hi, I just received my second hand RF 645. My first impression is that it is an excellent little machine. No manual was included so I have 2 questions. First, how do I set the pressure plate to 220 film. I just I justhad to press the plate and puch it upwards, however, this does not seem to work. Do I also need to press the lever next to the plate saying 120 or 220? The other question is this, I have read that the shutter will only fire with film in the camera. I have no film where I am right now so I can not try. When I look through the viewfinder, an X is visible. I have read that this means that the release is blocked. Is this because there is no film inside? The lens is mounted by the way. Thanks for your answers, always appreciated. Frank
trooper
You'll like your new little buddy, Frank. The 120/220 lever is the only thing you need to change. It resets the indicator window and and the pressure plate in one operation. To "dry fire" the camera, simply press the ME button to trigger the multiple exposure mode. The lens shutter recocks after each exposure and will be ready after the wind lever cycle and next press of the ME button. I'm happy to scan some of the key pages from the manual if you wish, but my guess is that Tamron would help you out with a manual. The camera is extremely intuitive and logical so my guess is that with a bit of initial minor fumbling, it will feel quite natural to operate in short order. trooper
Ooops... I questioned the part of my response about needing to cycle the wind lever and went to check it out on my camera. This only seems needed on the first cycle and simply pressing the ME on subsequent shutter releases is all that's necessary.
