Uhooru
Hi all. Please step up and share your favorite photo of the week. Don't be shy and if you are lurking, please join in. I'll start with another portrait with the GX7 and 50 cron. This is of one of my best friends and a super photographer. Plus she even laughs at my jokes!
baisao
For reference, this stack of trees is about 100 foot high and wraps around into an enormous circle of stacked dead trees. This is in Nacogdoches, Texas and I believe it is a plywood plant. The combined magnitude of these plants in East Texas is almost incomprehensible. I am reminded of the radio prompt during the beginning of Blue Velvet... "logs, Logs, LOGS. LUMBERTON!"

Mamiya 7ii / 150mm / Provia 100F / No Meter

Click <a href=" rel="nofollow">here to view larger on Flickr.

baisao
This building felt old when I first visited it 40 years ago. At the time it was called Jiffy Burger. The burgers were large and had a pleasant amount of black pepper on them. It was right around the corner from my grandmother's home. I think the first burger I ever had came from this drive-in.

A lot has changed in 40 years. The town has become more diverse but also more run down in places. All the growth is happening on the far side of town. It's difficult to see the town as it was for all the pawn shops and pay day loan outfits on the main drag.

I'm glad that this old drive-in is still around, reborn as a taqueria . Places like this remind me that there's still stuff to love about my home town.

Mamiya 7ii / 80mm / Provia 100F / No Meter

Click <a href=" rel="nofollow">here to view larger on Flickr.

rgerraty
Thanks Knut. Some of the Melbourne trams are used for commercial advertising, some for advertising like the Australian Open that has some benefits for Melbourne, and some just decoration like this one.

<a title="Arts Centre from Princes Bridge, Melbourne by Richard, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7554/16106482487_848d6ff7b2_z.jpg" alt="Arts Centre from Princes Bridge, Melbourne" width="640" height="426" />

baisao
Muchas gracias, Knut. I love these small town factories.

I haven't shared the drive-in photo anywhere but here and on Flickr. Perhaps it seems familiar because it's not such an original take on the theme. Truth be told, it was taken as a personal document but I found the colors cast from the traffic light to be interesting, if garish. I don't see it hanging on a gallery wall. ;-)
baisao
E., I made a sincere attempt to develop a taste for durian but just couldn't do it. It smells so good when frozen. I thought I would start off with eating it frozen and work up to warm durian. Stupid! As soon as the frozen durian hit my palate it warmed and began to fill my nostrils with the smell of burning tire crossed with rotten garlic. It was not to be.
baisao
Knut, I wanted to add that I think your photo is marvelous. It's a perfect complement to W. Eugene Smith's photo, "A Walk to the Paradise Garden". It seems miraculous that he hasn't fallen in!
