gary_d1 Posted March 20, 2015 Share Posted March 20, 2015 Very nice Bill. The clarity of that picture is as good as your recent bird shots....Nice lens....Was it a slide or print, and did you digitize it or have it scanned elsewhere? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bill C1664885404 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Share Posted March 20, 2015
Last year I culled about 1000 color slides out of nearly 5000 I'd had stored since the 80's.
Researched / chose a place called DigMyPics to digitize them...did an outstanding job.
This is what went into the trash after a week of culling:

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

gary_d1 Posted March 20, 2015 Share Posted March 20, 2015 Another nice shot....I was going to buy one of these $300.00 slide scanners from B&H photo. I hear the results are descent. ...but they are painfully slow..I may outsource the job as well. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bill C1664885404 Posted March 20, 2015 Author Share Posted March 20, 2015
Well, we all have different criteria and circumstances...at first I considered buying scanning equipment and tackling the big task myself…but in the end the decision to go with a service (DigMyPics) was easy after weighing everything that I’d be faced with:
Investing some amount of money for equipment to begin with anyway;
And then I'd have have money tied up in left over equipment I'd never use again;
The sheer volume of slides I wanted to digitize;
The huge learning curve I'd be faced with;
The dedicated space I'd have to set up / tie up for weeks / months;
Knowing if some old slides had issues, DigMyPics Techs could adjust for that;
Their satisfaction guaranty of up to 20% rejects at no charge
They allow real-time online monitoring of their progress;
They allow you to make free image file downloads during their progress;
They include a couple free DVDs of the burned images with the returned slides;

DigMyPics was outstanding to deal with...have top of the line scanning / processing equipment / procedures of course, and every image file looks exactly like the original slide. So for me, my circumstances, it was an absolute success story.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mark_pierlot Posted March 21, 2015 Share Posted March 21, 2015
Great work as usual, Bill. I have a few hundred Kodachrome slides of my father's that I'd like to have digitized. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the service cost per slide for you? I'd just like to have an idea about what I'm getting into.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Bill C1664885404 Posted March 21, 2015 Author Share Posted March 21, 2015 Actually, the best advice I could give you is to just go to their website and you'll see the different cost structures per so many quantity etc..... My per slide cost with about 1000 slides would be different than if you only had two or 300 slides done Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mark_pierlot Posted March 21, 2015 Share Posted March 21, 2015
Thanks, Bill. I've decided to go with a local service (I'm in Vancouver, BC).
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
