nate_merz1
I ask this because my family and I always go on vacation during these times and I am gathering info on places to go. We have already been to glacier and yellowstone(many times). The criteria is as follows: must have great scenics, must be west of the continental divide(there are exceptions, i.e just has to be very close to continental divide), it can include parts of canada. would be nice, but not needed to have wildlife since i do have a younger brother and sister who arent interested in landscapes and love animals. Any suggestions?
bruce_hamm
You could spend some time in the Canadian Rockies between Banff and Jasper. Lots of wildlife opportunities (right beside the highways), mountains and glaciers.
chris_hansen
What about Banff Jasper area. Incredible landscape photography and plenty of mammmals. Not on the west side of the divide but plenty of areas that are. Chr
joey
Nate, you live in Pullman right? The choice is easy. Get out to the Olympic Peninsula, and shoot the beaches and the rainforests. I go to ONP every August. If you'd like some spots to go shoot, just let me know.
nate_merz1
Wow, well thats 2 for banf area and we were already looking into it. I dont live in pullman, I live in puyallup it is south of tocoma. So if any of you had the chance which would you visit, banf area or Olympic national park? mbeebee
I've been to both, and loved both. But in my opinion Banff and Jasper beat Olympic for sheer spectacular beauty that seems to go on and on and on . . . . On the down side, when I was there (early August a couple of years ago), Banff and Jasper had a higher ratio of RVs and bus tours, with some of the more popular trails and overlooks feeling like Dinseyland. Overall, though, it might just be the right combination of landscapes and animals you're looking for; you might see some elk in Olympic, but you won't see any grizzlies. j._scott_schrader
Here's yet another vote for Banff & Jasper...one of the most impressive pieces of real estate I've ever seen...dramatic landscapes with abundant wildlife. To me there would be no hesitation in making the choice to visit the Canadian Rockies rather than the OP. (I'm primarily a wildlife shooter though.) stemked
I used to live about 300 miles away from the park; Jasper simply can't be beat.
michael_hancock
Banff and Jasper have spectacular landscapes, and even better wildlife opportunities than Yellowstone. However, the Olympic peninsular is a magical place - very unique in the world. A difficult choice - but you can't go wrong either way.
Two23
Columbia Icefields. I'd skip Banff and its hordes of yuppies, to the south. I also like Woods Buffalo Park in the summer, after first week of August. Mt. Revelstoke area is nice also. Kent in SD
ecography
I live in Miami, so I shoot pictures in the Everglades in the summer, the towering cumulonimbus clouds produced by the heat over the Everglades makes the whole picture beautiful. And sometimes you can get away with having a bad subject just because the clouds become your main subject.
