Alex_Es
The Nikon HB-11 lens hood was made for the Nikon 24-120 AF zoom. I was surprised when it fit snuggly on my FDn 20/2.8 and showed no signs of vignetting. It fits as well as a standard FD lens hood for all intents.

I came upon it after months of searching for for the appropriate FD lens hood.

Bill C1664885404
Looks good and sounds like it works fine...good deal.

I removed / set aside my original Canon hoods off 24/28/35/50/85mm lenses and use similar looking metal screw-in hoods instead...mainly for the simplicity / functionality of being able to use a rotating polarizer and still have the benefit of some hood shade. None of the screw-in metal ones have the tulip shape like the Canons...they look like the one in your photos but a little smaller diameter than that 20mm needs.

Alex_Es
Thanks for your thoughts, Bill. It still cannot believe it works.
paul_wheatland
I also use a non Canon hood. It's a rectangular hood that clamps on with a single pressure screw. It was for Konica also with 55mm opening and serves 24 and 28mm focal lengths!
Alex_Es
Thanks for sharing, Paul. The old FD hoods are getting scarce and worn out and it is always good to find viable alternatives.
JDMvW
While you are looking (I haven't found old Nikon hoods that much easier than Canon FD), here are a couple of temporary fixes:
http://www.lenshoods.co.uk (paper lens hoods you can print out at home on a 2-D printer)
http://www.yeggi.com/q/lens+hood/?s=tt entry into 3-D printer hoods...
Here is where the problem is with the original FD lens hoods:
Here the nubbies (no relation to newbies or nubiles) are gone. However, the hood still fits well on my 50mm f/1.4.

Bill C1664885404
And just as another alternative for a loose original Canon bayonet hood that is otherwise in excellent shape:
3 pieces of black electrical tape as shims.

I used some yellow in the first photo for clear illustration…black pieces in actual practice.
Put a piece over each of the 3 worn nylon nubs and the hood gets pinched on tight for a very snug fit.

iangillett
Alex,
Does the lens hood screw-on or does it fit over the bayonet mount. I've looked at the hoods on-line and thought it was a bayonet fit.
Best Wishes
Ian
mark_stephan2
I too use Nikon lens hoods on my New FD lenses. Currently use a HB-6 on my 50/3.5 and it's a perfect fit and does not vignette.
Alex_Es
Ian, pardon the late response. The Nikon hood uses the Canon's bayonet mount perfectly. My experience is the same as Mark's.
