mukul_dube
Which is the edible end, Barry?
Here's Professor T.N. Madan, a sociologist whom I've known for half a century, cut out of a larger scene. I had to work on it in the GIMP to hide the fact that it is a blow-up.

mukul_dube
Scholar and activist Devaki Jain chairing a seminar. First time I met her after 1975. Crop of photo taken with a 50mm as there wasn't enough light for my 90mm. Going closer would have alerted her to my presence.

Alex_Es
Mukul, I am impressed with your cropped portraits. They are sharp and I see no signs of grain. Could you tell us what film you were using?

mukul_dube
Alex, if you look again you will see that focus appears to be on her hand and arm and not on her spectacles. I used Fujicolor ASA 400 film for this picture. That cannot be had in India (only the ASA 200 version is available), so I have to get friends -- mostly in the USA -- to buy several rolls at a time for me. I should say that not much cropping was done: I have retained perhaps three fourths of the negative area. For this roll I used the Staticfix brace that my late friend Robert Hooper sent me. Shutter mostly 1/15 sec., aperture mostly f/2.8.
