ben_lawrence_miller
Hello all,

I received a Bowens Illumitran I bought on the err "world's largest internet auction site" and I was wondering if an established user could tell me if it's working correctly?
It powers up and flashes on command, but tt seems to click intermittently - the sound being an internal relay, which coincides with the right-hand status light flicking on and off.
Does anyone know if this is normal?
Thanks in advance...
JDMvW
Bowens is still in business ( http://www.bowensusa.com/index.php/flash-lighting.html ) so maybe a note or call would turn up an old copy of the instructions.
The worthy and honored Butkus has a manual for one model that might help:
http://www.butkus.org/chinon/bowens/bowens_illumitran-3/bowens_illumitran-3.htm
same file at www.3dimensionphoto.com/images/model3.pdf

I've never used the Illumitran, having gone with Honeywell Repronars for this sort of thing, but could it just be the charge for the flash cycling?
ben_lawrence_miller
Thanks for the response JDM. I've emailed Bowens to see if anyone old enough is left at the company. They might be able to help me out. As for your Honeywell, it looks great. I think they must be most popular stateside as I've never seen one in the UK. I really hope I can get this to work. I'm convinced that it will be the way to go 'scanning' my folders of 120 film with my shiny nikon d800. :)
ben_lawrence_miller
Just for future reference, if anyone has any trouble with these units, Bowens will no longer service them :(
I'm sorry to say that if you have a problem with an Illumitran you're going to have to find an independent repairer...
