I was trying to paste this image into a response on this forum question, http://www.photo.net/sports-photography-forum/00ccix

But couldn't due to this problem. I tried pasting the error message text that was blocked on the same grounds. So here's a screen capture.

I'm not sure what pasting an image into a response has to due with that website. But if I removed the image I could post it without problems. So I was forced to download the image to a photo.net folder and link to that. I'm just curious as to why I can't simply paste an image into a response from my clipboard.

Pretty much what the error message says. Like a lot of startups, new media oriented sites and fledgling social media sites, that particular website was banned for repeatedly spamming links here on photo.net without adding any content or contributing to the forums.

If you want to add a photo to the forums, you can either upload directly to the forum or upload to your photo.net portfolio space and drag-and-drop the photo into the reply box. Since you're a subscriber you have unlimited portfolio space. I use several hidden or private folders to store images for which I'm not interested in critiques but do wish to use them for illustrations of technique, or to contribute to weekly photo sharing threads.

Or you can use offsite files hosts, Flickr, smugmug, etc. But some sites are occasionally banned due to repeated spamming.

Maybe I'm not understanding this, but what did the image I pasted into the response have to do with the website in question? I don't think I've ever even visited it. I simply went to the folder where the image was located on my hard drive, pressed Ctrl+C to copy it to my clipboard, and went to the response box and pressed Ctrl+V to paste it into the response. I never linked to anything.
It's not really a big deal. I ended up doing pretty much what you describe. I'm just curious what's going on when I try and paste directly into the text editor.

If the test string x-y-d-o (without the dashes) appears anywhere in your post, it will be blocked. So if that string, for example, appeared in the filename, it would be blocked.

If you cut and paste, the HTML often contains extraneous characters.

Clearly it's working OK now since you posted it here OK and the same filter applies here as on the Sports (and all other) forums(s).

I don't believe you can copy a file from your hard drive and paste it into a forum post though. You have to post a link to it for it to appear inline. To attach a file you have to upload it. You can't copy and paste it as far as I know.

Why you get that specific error message, I don't know, but that text string must be in your HTML, even if it doesn't show up in the text display.

Thanks for taking the time to explain it. I'm still a little baffled by why it threw up the red flag, but in the future I'll just upload the images first to a folder here and link to it. Sorry for the fuss, I just got a little irritated that it wouldn't just let me post my comment with the image pasted into the text box.

Plus the data for the picture itself may have strings in it, such that, if they were isolated, would say "f*K you" or some other prohibited abbreviation or string....
The gibberish that makes up a picture when pasted in looks like this selection:
...iA8eDp4bXBtZXRhIHhtbG5zOng9ImFkb2JlOm5zOm1ldGEvIiB4OnhtcHRrPSJBZG9iZSBYTVAgQ29yZSA1LjAt...

Some forums are more sensitive than others.
