joe_pelizza_salusso_di_vol
Why Leica does not produce universal lenses even for others brand? Tahnk you for sharing Joe
chip l.
The Leica FAQ answers this I hope: http://www.nemeng.com/leica/017ea.shtml Chip
michael_kastner
Leica doesn't even produce universal lenses for it's own brand.
john_morris4
What's a universal lens?
lee_shively
Probably for the same reason none of the other major camera companies do either. Which is...? Proprietary systems? But Nikon doesn't make lenses to fit Canon, etc. There's always an enterprising soul out there somewhere making adapters so lens X will fit camera Y. None come to mind right now, however. lee_shively
Now that I think of it, Leica does make M-mount lenses that fit on Konica Hexars and Voigtlander R2's. And there's a bunch of older Leitz 39mm screw mounts out there that will fit LTM cameras. Hmmm.
henry_ting2
If you think the compatibility between Leica lens are bad, try figuring out all the attachments and accessories combos for their Visoflex system.
oliver_s.
There's plenty of adaptors to use R lenses on Canon EOS bodies. Search or contact your neighbourhood tool shop, and you'll find/have made and adaptor to use Leica lenses on about anything. (Its register of 47.00mm is pretty long and permits this.)
Economically, Leica has only so many production capacities, and it would make little sense to compete with "L" zooms. The typical SLR buyer would never consider a lens that costs more than $ 500 anyway.
And what would many Leica users say if you could buy a Leica lens for a Canon Rebel? They'd turn away in droves if Leica isn't elitist any more! :-)
chip l.
Lee, IMO there is little reason for Nikon to make a lnes in Canon mount, or visa versa. Though there is reason for Leica to make their lenses in other mounts. Leica decided to take the easy road and seek license to make other mounts. If they really wanted to they could reverse engineer the mounts like Sigma does. But the pay off would be low given the costs. Chip
roger c
So they can sell their highly expensive and not terribly impressive (in technological terms) bodies!
