Super Coolscan 5000 ED repair

<p>Does Nikon still work on these scanners? Is there an alternative to Nikon? I probably just need a simple cleaning, but do not have a clue where to go.<br>

<p>Same machine (6 years old) same problem, Nikon France says that they will repair it until 2016, but they will not touch it if it is not broken. That leaves me with two options: betting that a repair shop will do the cleaning without breaking it , or breaking it myself so Nikon will accept it...<br />I guess the best option is doing nothing, I keep this machine permanently Under a tailor-made box, and treat it with great respect. I have seen on the net a do-it-yourself protocol, too complicated...</p>

<br />I had my Coolscan 5000 cleaned and checked out just a couple of months ago through the Nikon service center in NY. I went through the Nikon web site to set up the servicing: https://repair.nikonusa.com/ProductEntry</p>

Jeff, I think you have the answer, and Didier's info is good to know. Have any

coolscan serviced now, whether it needs it or not.

<p>If Nikon USA doesn't work out for you try contacting www.precisioncamera.com . I know they repair scanners. They did a KM Dimage Scan Elite 5400 for me. Good luck!</p>
