Q.G., is right. The H camera … "camera" … is partially manufactured and finally assembled in Sweden … but like ALL things these days, may source materials, or bits from global suppliers (like the sensors in the DB). The H cameras are all marked "Made in Sweden", and are returned to Sweden for repairs.

The H lenses are designed and refined in Sweden and manufactured in Japan … and are marked, "Made in Japan".

The new CMOS H5D/50c sensor is supplied by Sony who is a premiere global digital sensor maker, and in fact has recently expanded their manufacturing facilities for CMOS sensors by buying a sensor facility from Nintendo to meet growing demand.

Sony makes sensors for companies other than their own. Economy of scale dictates that this sensor be offered on the open market the same as any sensor makers does (Truesense, Dalsa, etc.). I would not be surprised if a Pentax 645D or Leica S offers this 50 meg sensor in future.

The difference between Phase One's use of this CMOS sensor and that of Hasselblad has to do with electronics designed by the camera companies, not just the sensor itself. Another example of this proprietary design was the Sony A900 and the Nikon D3X both of which used a Sony 24 meg FF sensor, but resulted in two very different cameras. Same for the Nikon D800 and the new Sony A7R … both use a Sony 36 meg sensor.
