dave_pemberton
who other than tamron and sigma makes eos compatible stuff? And what would be the cheapest plan of attack to get an Eos fisheye?
colin_jones
Heres a website for fisheye comparison: http://www.popularphotography.com/Camera/ArticleDisplay.asp?ArticleID=137 Hope it helps
basscheffers
Tokina does. Quick check:

Canon 15/2.8: $550
Sigma 15/2.8: $400
Tokina 17/3.5: $370
Tamron: 14/2.8: $1029
straightarm
Tokina make some execllent lenses, especially their ATX range. Cosina, Vivitar and if youcan hold of them, Phoenix, make EOS fit lenses. The absolute cheapest way to get a fisheye lens in to buy a fish eye convertor that screws in the filter mount of your lens. Try www,speedgraphic.co.uk and look in the catalogue in the teleconverter section Simon in black and white everyone's a hero!
NK Guy
Tamron, Tokina (THK ) and Sigma are the main three makers of third party lenses. Sigma's probably your cheapest option in terms of autofocus EOS-compatible fisheyes. However if you're okay with manual focus then the cheapest option by far is the Russian-made Zenitar fisheye. Manual focus isn't a big deal on such lenses since the depth of field with fisheyes is so great.
http:// photonotes.org/reviews/zenitar-fisheye
ben_rubinstein___mancheste
Vivitar do, though it is said that their lenses are nowhere near the quality they used to be. My 25yr old FD Vivitars were really excellent, it's a shame that the modern equivelents are not so. I've never been impressed with sigma, not back then and definately not these days. david_haardt1
Dave,

Tokina and Cosina/Soligor/Vivitar/Voigtlaender (four brands, one production) also sell EOS compatible lenses. Tokina has a line of very well built lenses (ATX), although their autofocus technology is a bit outdated. C/S/V/V are really cheap zooms.

As far as the fish-eye is concerned, I'd like to point you to the Russian "MC Zenitar-M 2.8/16 Fish-Eye" lens. It's made in Krasnogorsk (near Moscow) by KMZ, owners of the brand "Zenit". It's actually an M42 screw-mount lens, but there are adapters for Canon EOS (and for almost any other 35mm SLR camera in the world). The only quirk is that you lose aperture coupling, i.e. you need to work at actual rather than at open diaphragm.

The lens is readily available from eBay. Price for a new one is about 130 dollars. Sellers I can recommend are "kievcamera" (Atlanta, GA) and "ustas" (Moscow, Russia) (without quotation marks). Needless to say, I have no professional affiliation with them.

The lens is quite well-made and also optically fine (I own a Zenitar-N, i.e. for Nikon). Furthermore, you can't do much wrong given _that_ price ;-)

Here are a few links of interest:

NK Guy uses the Zenitar on his Canon, his review can be read at http://photonotes.org/reviews/zenitar-fisheye/

A good review of the Nikon version (by Jim Tardio) is available at http://www.jimtardio.com/zenitar.html

The manufacturer's product page is available at http://www.zenit-foto.ru/english/production/lenses/mc_zenitar_m.htm
Best,
