pete_s.
Ahh, full body framing.
Assume 7 feet high so you can have some space around the subject. We also assume a vertical composition which would be the most common scenario.

Distance to subject using an 85mm lens on FX is 85mm / 36mm x 7ft = 16.5 ft.
With a 200mm lens, 200mm / 36mm x 7ft = 38.9 ft.
Distance to move: 38.9ft - 16.5ft = 22.4 ft.

Average step length being approx 31 inches according to ACM.
So 22.4 ft * 12 / 31" = 8.7 steps.
Since we can't take half steps the answer to the OP question is 9 steps.
CvhKaar
Hi Anurag,
My advice after all the previous answers and debates :
- Rent a 85mm F/1.4 for a day or two, either Nikon or Sigma, and Try if it works for you
play with it and se if it does what you expect from it......
Then decide if this is what you want..

nico_morris
There's only one way to settle this. What you have to do is tie round your waist a really long piece of string and then walk until you're too tired to walk any more, and report back on how long it is.
Hope this helps.
