Six weeks without a right-hand grip is pure torture for a tool-using artist. Plus, the dogs are really tired of being walked by just me in team-of-horses mode.

Slipping on the ice is a real risk (though we now know all about compression fractures to the distal radius!), so watch your balance and your footing. Especially true for us photographers, who are always looking at something else, and will sacrifice bones to prevent a nice camera rig from hitting the hard ground.

It will indeed be a happy Nikon Wednesday around here, with the plaster prison gone! Photographed something about patience, or perhaps just a patient? Share!

tsypkin
@ Matt Laur -- your photo reminds me how lucky I am, having landed with all my 200 pounds on my wrist while walking the dog in a forest -- and not needing a doctor afterwards.
Here are three dog photos.t

lex_jenkins
Pix of patients? Those, I have plenty of. My most recent date back to late December 2013, but I haven't posted 'em before.

My mom at JPS Lifespan clinic, December 27, 2013. It's been a rough year for mom's health, and the end of December was a particularly rough week. Yet she always manages to charm kidlets wherever we go. Here she is giving Rosie a ride in her power wheelchair and telling silly stories and singing songs.

Nikon V1, 10-30 VR, SB-N5 flash bounced off ceiling to supplement the surprisingly pleasant lobby lighting. ISO 800, 1/60th @ f/5. The lobby lighting is warm in color temperature, which makes for nice b&w conversions after setting the white balance to around 6500-7500k or "cloudy" or "shade" settings.

*

Rosie listens intently to a mom story. Later, Rosie tried to negotiate a swap of her umbrella stroller for mom's power wheelchair.

CoryAmmerman
Picture of a patient? Sure. My wife gave birth to our first child last weekend, a daughter. She just couldn't wait until the proper time to put in an appearance, coming almost 11 weeks early. We had a bit of a scare earlier in the week, but Mom and baby are both doing well, I'm happy to report. Unfortunately the baby is going to have to spend a few weeks in the NICU since she decided to show up so early. :-)

lex_jenkins
Congratulations and best wishes, Cory. I remember January 2006 very well - my cousins and I were spending much of our time at Cook Children's Hospital after my cousin's first son, Stewart, was born with a serious heart defect. He just turned 8 this month and has made it through a few open heart surgeries, including one in late 2012. Kids are pretty tough and medical care is better than ever.

Congratulations and also my best wishes for your family :)

Andy Murphy
Matt, Glad you escaped the plastic prison. As a student, I was tackled doing an end run resulting in a diagonal break of the bone in the lower right leg which required a plaster cast from hip to foot.
Freezing rain here today.

pegsphotos
Here is my yellow-bellied Sapsucker (I think) which took a little patience to catch. I believe it is a juvenile. I am not a true birder, but I do love them. I have not posted here, except for a couple of shots a few years ago. I see a few friends postings here occasionally though! I posted one photo to the no words forum yesterday, and found the courage to try here this morning!
