franz_pritz
I`m a P67 user doing mostly landscape work with a 55-100/4.5 and a 200/f4. The 55-100 is a great lens but there is a lot of ghosting when the sun is dircectly in the finder. Now I`m considering to buy the 45/f? because I often would need more than my available 55, especially when I shoot in the mountains. My question: Are there the same ghosting problems with the 45 as with the 55-100?Franz
steve_rasmussen
I have been using the 45mm for 11 years now and don't ever recall any ghosting problems. The 45 is an amazing lens BTW. It is quite sharp wide open and the distortion is almost zero. The design is nearly identical to the Leitz 21mm f/4 Super Angulon-R, just scaled up. djphoto
The Pentax 6x7 45mm f4 lens is such a great lens that even though I'm primarily a Hasselblad photographer I have one Pentax body so that I can use this lens. Also, as I recently wrote in another thread on this forum, I can own the Pentax body and lens for less than the cost of a good used 40mm Distagon T*. patrick_drennon
Have had some minor to moderate flare when shooting into the sun but no ghosting (w/ the 45 f/4).
franz_pritz
Thank's Steve, Dave and Patrick for your advice. I've made up my mind to go for the 45/4.0 as soon as possible. Franz
peter_habens_brown
Franz, I use the 45 & 55 routinely in my professional work. Much of my fine art landscapes are taken out in the Australian outback - fierce strong sunlight - and I've never experienced ghosting with either lens. The 45 is superb! Very little distortion but lots of fine detail. You just have to watch flare if you get the sun in the frame (but it's btter than most wides in this respect). Perhaps the ghosting is more the result of the 55-100 zoom design? I don't have any problems with the 55 either but I also make sure that the lens front element is well shaded. I shot a lot of sking photos some years ago (35mm) and you need to be aware of a lot of reflected light from the snow as well. Hope this helps - happy shooting.
