jon_kobeck1
Im looking for an MJU II and I am seeing new ones from Asia. I thought they were discontinued 10 years ago???
andylynn
It's either new old stock or sellers misusing the term "new". Those haven't been made in years.
jon_kobeck1
There are quite a few on ebay. from Asia. Losts of happy buyers judging from the feedback. could it really be old stock?
dave_s
In my medium-sized Canadian city, a local camera shop had new mju-ii's for sale about six or seven years ago. So it's possible. I've seen older stuff show up as new old stock.
lex_jenkins
There's a lot of new-in-box old stock electronics available via ebay, mostly Japanese brand stuff. I've seen Sony shortwave radio gear that hasn't been manufactured in years being sold, but the vendors always represent it accurately as NIB unsold old stock. Presumably the stuff is found tucked away in warehouses and sold as vendors can find the NIB old stock.
jon_kobeck1
Thats great news because the MJU II is an awesome camera
craig_shearman1
Love mine and still use it. Wish I could fine something comparable in digital at a reasonable price.
lex_jenkins
The Olympus TG 620 iHS is pretty close to the Stylus Epic models in terms of P&S ease and results. No raw files, but the in-camera JPEGs look great. I wish it were even simpler - I'd get one for my mom. But the little paddle/joystick doodad brings up too many options that would confuse her. On the plus side, I wouldn't worry about dropping it or getting it wet.
steve_snyder2
I bought a new MJU II new about 10 years ago. Sold it a couple of years ago for about what I paid for it, around $70. Now I see they are going for well over $100! I wish I had held onto mine because I am shooting a lot more film these days... With luck you might find one at a thrift shop because people lump these in with all the other cheap throwaway film cameras.
lex_jenkins
Yup, those great compact/P&S film cameras from the 1970s-'90s do occasionally show up very cheaply in pawn shops and thrift stores. I don't see them as often as I used to - my last really good find was an Olympus 35 RC for $20 at a nearby pawn shop about 10 years ago - but I know of folks who luck into cameras like the Yashica T4 and other goodies for around $5.
john_hermanson2
yeah, "new" old stock with no manufacturers warranty and no repair parts available. John
andylynn
Lex, a couple years ago I have to pay $20 for a Yashica T4 at Goodwill!
Mike Gammill
A couple of interesting features on this camera: top shutter speed is 1/1000 second and if the meter senses fluorescent lighting it will fire the flash to reduce the change of green cast on color shots. And the four element f2.8 lens is a good performer.
dave_s
Good little camera. I still use one as a pocket camera when I'm backpacking, or just when I'm day hiking without a bigger camera.

To add to what Mike said, IMHO you get the most out of this camera with 400-speed film. That allows it to stop down a bit, and under those conditions the lens performance is outstanding. Photo below was made with Portra 400VC.

I think, but don't have any evidence, that the Stylus Epic/mju ii makes its best photos at intermediate distances-- anything from people at 3 meters, to big interiors at 20 meters. I don't know why. In my hands, it doesn't make good landscapes, but I carry a 120 camera for that. One other thing-- the lens is right out front and exposed, and it could use some sort of a lens shade.

luis_vernon1
The Stylus MJUII was discontinued around 2002. An excellent camera!.. However, I find the original MJU-1 to be more desirable. Its 35mm f3.5 3 element lens is quite sharp but more importantly, the MJU-1 fits better in my hands. I was able to obtain a NOS MJU-1 on ebay for $16. I own 3 of these delightful cameras and at least one of them always comes with me on vacation to France..
