raybrizzi
Back in the old days, I had a 50mm lens on my EXA IIA and Canons. If I looked through the viewfinder with both eyes open, the view was the same size in both eyes. If I put the 2x converter on it, the viewfinder view was twice as big.
Now I have a k-5 with a lens at 70mm, which with the 1.5 factor should be about the same as the old camera, 105mm or so. But the view is the same from both eyes again.
Just trying to understand why. I'm obviously missing something. Or is it just that the viewfinder is larger or smaller?
john_shriver
Finder magnification of the K-5 is 0.92x. Which is pretty decent for a digital camera.
I tried a 28-90 zoom on my K-5, and 1:1 looks to be at about 60mm.
songtsen

Or is it just that the viewfinder is larger or smaller?

APS-C cameras have smaller viewfinders. Unfortunately, magnification is quoted for a 50mm lens which is somewhat misleading for a cropped FOV.

You may find these comparisons interesting:

Viewfinder comparison

Viewfinder sizes
raybrizzi
So basically it's just the size of the viewfinder that makes the difference. I'll have to dig out the old EXA and compare. Thanks!
