squareformat
Using my spanner wrench I've managed to remove the first two elements of this lens but I need to go further in to clean a little fungus. I'm baffled as to how to proceed. The next visible element (looking from the front) seems to be hiding behind a protruding lip but it's not a retaining ring as far as I can see. I can't figure out what has to be removed to free this element. Is there something hiding beneath the sliding lens hood that would aid the cause - maybe a few grub screws? Any help would be much-welcomed.
SCL
Try Kyphoto.com, perhaps one of the repairers who frequent that site may be able to help.
squareformat
Thanks Stephen. My experience of Kyphoto is that I very seldom get an answer to a repair problem but I'll give it a go.
alan_krantz
Try John Hermanason:
www.zuiko.com
-
He is very active on the olympus mailing list and is always willing to provide instructions (as time permits).
konrad_beck1
Just in case that you don't have it, there are "explosion parts diagrams" for most OM Zuiko lenses at:
http://olympus.dementix.org/Hardware/olympus_hw.html
although they are not very specific on how things have to be handled.
squareformat
Thanks guys. I've had a look at the exploded diagrams but they just confuse the hell out of me! Maybe time to ask Mr Hermanson for some help...
john_hermanson2
I saw this thread but was not going to get involved. Element 3+4 are permanently mounted into the front lens tube. If it's the oldest type 300 with silver edged filter ring, part number is CB1308. You'd have to replace it. If fungus is inside that group, you will not be able to clean it. The 300 is one of the biggest time pits around, with low resale. It's a 6-8 hour job to degrease one when it's got oily blades. John
john_robison3
That is depressing news about the 300 f4.5 Zuiko John H. I had thought of getting one to extend the range of my OM set-up. Right now I end at the 200 f5 and putting a 2X on an f5 is just crazy, f10 being a bit slow. And I even have a 1-12 screen for slow teles.
john_hermanson2
If you can handle a 300 before you buy it, by all means check for dry snappy diaphragm blades. Or buy one from a reputable dealer like KEH. John
