scooter0071
I have had great luck with my Tamron 70-200 2.8 and use it a lot. I went out tonight to take some quick photos and the auto focus was not working all of the sudden. I placed it in manual mode and it turns but with a lot of resistance. I tried to move it back and forth to see if it would free up but no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?
willis
This first thing I would ask is:

What was the ambiant temperature>

If it was cold, I would suggest that the grease was setting up.

If you are not a tech, I would suggest you have a CLA by a professional.

frank_skomial
... and not long time ago there were people praising Tamron lenses being above Nikkors.
Something about "dethronement of the King".

... one is certain, you get what you paid for...
r._malecki
I have numerous Tamron and Nikon lenses. I apparently have had very good luck. I've had tech experts, when looking at a photograph, say, "Nikon lens?" and I say, "No, Tamron lens."
I would guess there's is a defect in yours. They have 6 year warranties. I had an issue with the focus on my 70-200 Nikon and sent it back and they replaced it. It can happen to anything. Just don't take "no" for an answer if you are not satisfied.
