kgavin
I've been saving for a Lastolite Trilite setup for portraits only to find out that this product has been discontinued (at least with B&H and Adorama). Does anyone use this setup or have recommendations for an alternative? I used one once a few years ago and really like the look. I'm trying to avoid setting up three stands with different reflectors (more to carry). Thanks.
rob_h5
The Trilite reflectors are very popular for fashion/portrait. You can make a DIY tri-lite with simple foam core making 2 cuts (not too deep just enough for a fold) with a xacto blade for 3 panels and folds and glueing 3 square (silver/gold) reflector panels from a LEE FILTER 273 soft silver reflector sheets/roll.

But if thats too much work...

Calumet still sells the Trilite
http://www.calumetphoto.com/eng/product/lastolite_trilite_reflector_kit_sunfire_silver/bg7200
rob_h5
This guy made one out of Medium-density fibreboard. Also any adhesive will do for to adhere the reflector material; spray adhesive/non-reflective black shur tape or duct tape/velcro...ect. Tape is probably the best, its quick and clean and also can double as a hinge.

DIY triflector
<a href="
kgavin
Thanks Rob. I was looking for the white and silver kit. Maybe I can cut some white foam core into the shapes, but I think I may just go with three reflectors.

Hopefully Lastolite has something else up its sleeve, because this is a pretty popular product for those who bought it, and I can think of a few other Lastolite products they could cut instead of this one.
ellis_vener_photography
Lastolite stills lists the trilites as available: http://www.lastolite.us/search?q=Trilite&x=0&y=0 I use the Joe McNally variation of the TriGrip. I like it. Smart piece of gear.
kgavin
The word from Lastolite is that this product has been discontinued and replaced with this kluge:

http://www.adorama.com/LSTLSLK.html

Very disappointing. I'm going to see if I can find one of the original products used.
ely_lenik
All in all I think it was just too much money for a lighting modifier with only one use. I think most people buy gear that is universal and usable in many situations.
kgavin
True, but when working alone without an assistant (as I often do), a unit like this is invaluable.
