james_de_h
When I was looking into fitting an SSD into my 2009 iMac 27in I was put off by the need to crack the machine open. But after fitting an SSD to my son's MacBook Pro, I realised how much performance I seemed to be missing. So why not run an SSD as my boot plus applications drive via Firewire 800? Gave it a try and my iMac now flies. It was so easy to do too. Just a heads up for those like me who want an SSD for an earlier iMac but not the hassle of installing. I know I am taking a performance hit by not fitting the SSD in the Superdrive slot but this is a risk free option. If it goes pear shaped I can boot from the HDD. MUCH faster than the mechanical HD. Once you go SSD there is no turning back.
