Dynalite XP1100 AC Inverter + Jackrabbit II + Quantum Turbo SLA replacement battery pack OEM-equivalents:

I had previously posted this information in the "Dynalite XP1100 AC Inverter Replacement?" thread I started a few weeks ago. Rather than have it buried under a somewhat off-topic thread, I thought I'd make this information easier to search for under its own thread:

Dynalite Jackrabbit II = custom-built, Ni-Cad AA-pack by Batteries Plus: $50.
Quantum Turbo (original, SLA-versions only) = Power-Sonic PS-832: $20 (various resellers).
Dynalite XP1100 = Enersys Odyssey PC680: $105-117 (various resellers).

Original thread:

http://www.photo.net/photography-lighting-equipment-techniques-forum/00b895

I just bought two Odyssey PC680 batteries for my Dynalite XP1100 from Battery Mart. Free shipping and no sales tax (except VA) made them the best deal. Plus, they're a high-volume dealer, so I should be more likely to receive fresh stock. Looking forward to trying these out in the field with my new (used) XP1100!

Here's a link to a post, written in 2010, verifying that the Enersys Odyssey PC680 does in fact fit the Dynalite XP1100 (scroll down to the last post in the thread):

http://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=629983

The actual OEM battery used in the Dynalite-branded battery pack, the Dynalite XP11B, is apparently the Enersys/Hawker Genesis G16EP, which is rated one amp-hour less than the Odyssey PC680 (but, also weighs a pound less than the Odyssey). Here are the specs, copied from my original thread:

Enersys Odyssey PC680: 17AH; 220 CCAs; 16 lbs. [recommended]
Enersys/Hawker Genesis G12V16AH10EP: 16AH; (no CCA spec given); 15 lbs. [OEM]

Apparently, the Odyssey PC630 is a more robust version of the Genesis G16EP (which is only about $10 cheaper), and is more shock-resistant. So if buying the Odyssey PC680, you're getting a slightly better-than-OEM version of the battery used in the Dynalite XP11B.

Note: If you're buying replacement batteries for your XP1100, and don't currently own the original XP11B batteries, you'll need to buy the XP11B handle from Dynalite (about $35) to attach to your Odyssey or Genesis replacement batteries.

I just received my Enersys Odyssey PC680 batteries from Battery Mart last night (shipped via FedEx ground). They did an excellent job of packing the two, 16 lb. batteries I ordered. Only $116 each, with free shipping and no sales tax (except VA). Couldn't find my Allen wrench set to install the Dynalite handles on them last night, so I couldn't test them yet. I just borrowed a set, and now I'm on my way home to try them out! For anyone interested, here's a direct link:

Dynalite XP1100 delivers 1,000 Watt-seconds w/1.9 second recycle at full-power!

I just switched over the handles and terminal adapters from the old Dynalite-branded XP11B battery packs to my new Odyssey PC680s. Fit and form-factor of the PC680 is identical to the OEM Genesis battery. Once inserted into the XP1100, the battery level meter indicated "full" (Battery Mart shipped them already fully charged). Excited to give it a try, I then plugged in my 1,000 Watt-second Speedotron Force 10 monolight into the XP1100, and . . . wow! The performance is impressive! A recycle time of just under two seconds at full power, virtually the same as if I were plugged into a 120VAC household socket.

I also thought I'd try out my Nikon D800E's HyperSync capability while I was at it (recall that specific HyperSync efficacies are both camera- and strobe-dependent). Triggering my long-duration (t=0.5 value of 1/850th) Speedotron Force 10 monolight, using a PocketWizard TT1/TT5 combo, met with more good news. The D800E appears to HyperSync much better than a Nikon D3s, all the way up to 1/8,000th (HSS/FP disabled), with no significant exposure uneveness or curtain shadow (more studied tests are required to confirm this, but it looks very promising).

I found this interesting article (which briefly mentions another re-branded Genesis battery used in motorsports applications, unrelated to this discussion), but has more specific information on the two Dynalite-replacement batteries of interest. Here's more than you ever wanted to know about the Hawker/Genesis G16EP (Dynalite OEM) and Odyssey PC680 batteries:

Addendum:

Bowens Travelpak SLA battery replacement: Yuasa (or OEM equivalent) NP7-12 [12v, 7.2AH]. BatteryMart sells an OEM-branded version for $17 USD:

I bought mine from BatteryMart:

Addendum:

Bowens Travelpak SLA battery replacements: Additional Yuasa OEM equivalents for NP7-12 [12v, 7.2AH].

Yuasa: http://www.sears.com/yuasa-np7-12-12v-7ah-battery/p-SPM1176598614?hlSellerId=27954&sid=IDx20110310x00001i&kpid=SPM1176598614&kispla=SPM1176598614&kpid=SPM1176598614&mktRedirect=y
Enersys: http://www.atbatt.com/genesis-np7-12-12v-7ah-sealed-lead-acid-battery-with-f1-terminal.asp?utm_content=Genesis-NP7-12F1&utm_term=NP7-12F1&utm_category=Sealed-Lead-Acid&utm_source=google-pla&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=CP6Og6Tai8ICFYZefgodEGAAH

I'm still unsure if these fit the current Bowens' Travelpak batteries, or only the "first-generation" Travelpaks (and, if they do fit, do these replace the battery containers in the small or large Travelpacs).
