Thanks for the good wishes for our older dog last week (he's recovering very well). By coincidence, yesterday just happened to be our annual trip to visit with our favorite breeder, who had a new litter of our dog's cousins on the ground. I'm able to resist photographing a lot of things, but not six week old German Shorthair pups. Maybe it's that whole circle-of-life thing. But here's one of the little guys, doing his thing.

Had anything Cute, with a capital C, in front of your Nikon gear lately? The film based on Yann Martels novel opens today so what better than this Nikon shot of old pilings in the bay. bryan_davis3
I was walking over to get my car from its pre-Thanksgiving tuneup when I saw this scene up in the sky. There was almost no color in the shot, so I finished the job with a B&W conversion in Capture NX.

absent
Last weekend I attended the annual Remembrance Day observance at the National Battlefield in Gettysburg, PA. Here is the Virginia Memorial on Seminary Ridge, where "Pickett's Charge" stepped off July 3, 1863.

absent
Here is the same memorial seen from the Union position that was its objective. The telephoto lens compresses the apparent distance, which is about 1.5 miles. 15,000 men attempted to cross this space; less than half returned after the charge failed.
