jimcee
Will the Ai indexing tab on the Nikon D7000 body provide aperture control with a Nikkor TC-201 AI-S 2X teleconverter?
joseph_wisniewski
No. You can use AI, AIs, AF, and AF-D lenses only by setting the aperture ring on the lens. You'll get proper EXIF info and matrix metering if you go through the trouble of setting the effective aperture through the camera manual lens menu.
rodeo_joe1
James, I'm not sure what you're asking. The Ai indexing tab reads the aperture set on the lens ring, it doesn't control anything.

The TC-201 provides purely mechanical coupling between lens and camera body, including linking the auto-aperture stop-down lever and transferring the Ai-reading from the lens to the camera. In other words, fitting a TC-201 between the camera and a manual focus lens will provide exactly the same functions as fitting an MF lens alone. If fitted to an AF or AF-D lens all AF functions will be lost, as well as body control of the aperture. G type lenses will lose control of the aperture altogether.

As Joseph said, if the camera supports manual input of non-cpu lens data then the corrected (2x) focal length and aperture number can be set.
