50-135 allergic to cold

My DA 50-135 has always been a little hinky, sent it back while still under warranty and told it was fine that it must be the camera and to send the camera in, also under warranty, which I did and same result. Have just learned to live with it. The other day had it with me on a x-country ski, in the 20's cold but nothing unreasonable, had been out for a couple hours and went to use it, no auto focus, OK I'm used to this so go to manual focus but the f-setting won't change and of course no aperture ring ( a big thumbs down to whoever decided we don't need aperture rings anymore) and the shutter won't fire, tried a few things, flipped switches, took it off and put it on again same thing. Camera worked fine with 16-45 and 90 macro but refused to function with 50-135. Once home allowed camera and lens to warm up, worked fine. Assuming this is just another chapter in sdm issues with this lens, or has anyone else had cold problems with this lens or camera combo. (K5)
