erol_a.
I just purchased my first Leica, an m6 Classic which is in need of a vertical alignment. I'd also like to have the camera get a general once-over from a good service tech as I'm pretty new to the system and don't have a lens yet to test the camera on my own. I jump back and forth between Boston and the DC Metro area (Virginia side) pretty frequently; does anyone here know a solid repair shop I could count on for quality work that's reasonable in price and turnaround? Thanks.
roger_michel
apc amera in haverhill 978-373-3999. they are the best in boston. you can drop it off directly (or UPS it), or pay a surcharge and drop it off at any of the downtown camera stores (bromfield/state st camera/int'l camera) all of whom use apc. grimes at ep levines (no longer affiliated with stephen grimes who is now in rhodie), 617-951-1499 is pretty good as is the repair service at new england photo in arlington mass 781-643-1463. but use apc. jimmy has done many things for me. he will accurately align your rf while you wait (he has the whole setup in his back room). he just did my m6 balk lacq. patricks
For DC: Check if Pro Photo on 18th and Eye/I Street, NW can do it, otherwise call Strauss via http://www.spts.com Cheers,
andrew_lee2
Welcome to the club Eamonn (or would that be cult?). Wonder if there are any other kids at BC toting Leicas. Your (non-photog) friends must think you're nuts dropping a grand or two on a seemingly antiquated-looking point-and-shoot.
erol_a.
A good friend of mine from BC had been shooting with an m6 for a while; it was using his that got me hooked.
Side note, tomorrow is my last day of undergraduate class. *relief.* i'd told myself, "no more school, ever. just work." and here i am planning for design school already.
and lucky me, the M was under $800! I've been shooting with a Contax G2 which is a great little unit with superb optics, but sometimes I just need a simpler, manual camera. We'll see if the Contax stays after a few weeks with the M.
