thesaltypeanut
Greetings!
I'm sorry if this is not the right forum to post this on... I was kind of stuck as to where it should go.

I need to tranfer a zip file to a magazine publisher via ftp. They gave me the ip address, their id and password. I thought I know how to do this but it has been many many years since I've done this and I just realized that I completely forgot how to do this.
I thought I would post it here before emailing the art director.
Thanks in advance!
tom_mann1
There are nice sets of instructions here, here, and many other places on the web for using either Windows' built in file explorer or one of the many browsers. As I recall, there is also a plugin for Lightroom to give it FTP transfer capability (maybe by Jeffrey Friedl?).

For some FTP sites, it's conceivable (but unlikely) that you may have to install actual FTP client software on your computer, e.g., http://www.smartftp.com/download, http://winscp.net/eng/index.php, etc. Instructions for their use are on their websites.

HTH,

Tom M

frank_skomial
Program called PuTTY, or simply Putty, has been used around since command based operating system were the only systems, and windowing operating systems were in the infancy.

Seems that large programmer population were continuing development of the program, and now command based, and windowing type flavors are available.

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/

It you know a bit of DOS commands, or Windows Command, you can use it easily.

Search Google for PUTTY and you will find multilicity of putty flavors.
scott_ferris
The question is answered, but for future reference I use a Mac and use a donation ware program called Fetch, I have used it for years and it is a fantastic little program, highly recommend it for Apple users.
dhbebb
I have Ipswitch WS FTP Professional - as I recall, I just grabbed it as a paid-for download when I was in a hurry. I use it to send DTP files that are to big for e-mail - works fine.
