I was at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC, last weekend. The campus is on both sides of a local road and there's a footbridge that connects the two parts. I was strolling across with my K5 & 50-200, looking for photo ops and spotted this at the end of one of the girders of the bridge. I almost missed it, it's so small and out of the way. I couldn't get the angle I wanted, the railing was in the way. I just wish I had been there when they put it out. These kids today.

00aXRb-476671584.jpg.267f086585169235d97e3715ccd18597.jpg

Swiss heritage vs. Swiss kitsch. Town square in Appenzell. Some pp.

Took this with my W90. Six ounces to carry vs. 50. Re the June 4 thread, I need to find a good quality traveling camera. With a viewfinder!

00aXRu-476681584.jpg.1e872474b2cf8c31206388a7374919bc.jpg

I spent this past week in downtown Minneapolis for work. I only took the K-5 with DA40.

It rained a bit (but was still quite warm). View from my 18th floor hotel room window, looking out towards the setting sun. K-5, DA40, 1/50 sec. at f/5.0, ISO 250, -2.0EV.

There was a pretty good lightning show Monday night (or, more accurately, very early Tuesday morning). I got up a few times to watch it from the window, but couldn't quite catch an actual lightning bolt, as I was shooting handheld and unable to use longer shutter speeds. Another one looking out from the hotel window. K-5, DA40, 1/10 sec. at f/2.8. ISO 1250.

It did clear up nicely towards the end of the week. Had a nice dinner here with some friends on Thursday night. K-5, DA40, 1/160 sec. at f/4.0, ISO 800.

Nice work as usual!

I've been very busy with both photography and other work. I just spent a week in Taos, NM where my employer is based. I've been there many times but hadn't ever visited the Taos Pueblo, a 1000 year old Native American village that is still in use today. Pretty cool!
Finally one from the local river festival. Last year the water was huge. This year was pretty low but it was still a lot of fun.

A couple more from my trip. I'd appreciate some pointers on the first one.
I took this Castle photo in Vallandrant France.

The image was taken with a K7 and Pentax 12-24 (@12mm) Because of my shooting location I had serious tilting. The other problem was a house on the left side. Using photoshop I corrected the tilting, removed the color, upped the contrast a bit, and removed the house, although I didn't do a fantastic job of that Pointers are always appreciated.
This second image has to be one of the world's bravest lizards (Beary, France). I was hand holding my K7 with a 50mm macro (F f2.8, f16 I think). As much as all the other lizards took off this guy stayed for quite a while until I flinched a little too much (uncropped image)

Finally this last photo from some falls in the Pyrenees drives me a little crazy. The bridge in front makes it look like its crooked; it is not . The bridge is actually at this angle. Still I have this temptation to straighten in photoshop.

Large purple fringed var shriveri orchid, have always thought it was a hybrid like the keenans and andrews but ran into a botanist while out photographing and showed him these and he told me that they are now considered a seperate species and not a hybrid. I'll just stick to common names and taking the pictures and leave the technical stuff to the scientists.

00aXhs-476967584.jpg.3f52d2cb5e656160dd2bab6ef471653c.jpg
