ed_avis2
Once upon a time there was also a Sigma 14/3.5. I just spotted one in a London camera shop window on sale for 99 GBP. I don't know if it works reliably with recent Canon bodies.
brad_trostad
Just a quick update: I purchased a used Rokinon (Samyang) 14mm f2.8 and am quite pleased with it. Rather than review what has already been said (which is all spot on) I thought I'd mention things that I wasn't expecting:

1.) Manual aperture ring - awesome.
2.) Flare control - yes it is mentioned but is better than I was expecting.
3.) Size / Weight - Even smaller and lighter than I expected. I really think this is a great compliment to a 16-35 or 17-40 when you might need ultra wide.
4.) Focus throw - Way too long. For a long time I have wanted lenses with more focus throw. Now I know why they don't. This combined with trying to use live view can be a PITA.
5.) Funky distortion in video mode - I thought it would be worse, but in general use the mustache distortion is not something people call out. However, a still shot of a building - or power lines LOL - it's quite obvious.

A few initial examples (14mm on 5D2):

Sunset after it rained. Handheld about 2" above the blocks. Post processing to rotate to level, curves and some mild foreground sharpening - but no distortion correction. I wish I would have had a tripod to get multiple exposures for a higher dynamic range result.
http://www.amazonbeach.com/PhotoVideo/AmazonBeachGallery/slides/20120725205752_5D2_IMG_3668.html

Person jumping (With 1 off camera fill flash). She's only about 3" off the patio. Almost looks like she's PS'd onto the background due to the lighting and the perspective. No post processing or distortion correction to illustrate the distortion, etc.
http://www.amazonbeach.com/PhotoVideo/AmazonBeachGallery/slides/20120726195120_5D2_IMG_3728.html
