ali_bukhari
hey everyone, i just purchased a nikon coolpix 990 along with a rx versatac bracket and the AS-E900 adapter...i guess i was wondering how necc this was or any other voltage regulator...i purchased a cheap old vivitar 550FD flash and was wondering what i should do. Basically this voltage regulator is costing me about $70. Are there other good voltage regulators for a lesser price and/or how necessary are they? hal_bissinger
Unless you want to destroy that brand new camera you should do whatever you need to do to make sure that the sync connector voltage is safe on whatever flash you decide to use. You may have saved a couple of dollars on that "cheap old Vivitar 550FD" but if it fries your camera's sync circuitry you are going to be one sorry person. <p> As far as the Safe Sync is concerned, I wouldn't trust it. You would be much safer and better off purchasing a Nikon flash to go with that camera rather than risk damaging it.
mskovacs
No. For less than $70 you can get yourself into a brand new Vivitar 283 flash with a safe voltage. (keeping in mind I have no idea of the power output of the 550FD) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bh4.sph/FrameWork.class?FNC=ProductActivator__Aproductlist_html___61440___VI283___REG___CatID=0___SID=F21934FAA00 Honestly though, if you can afford it, you'd be better off with a Nikon TTL compatible speedlight than an old style auto flash.
