kee_choon_goh
Hi all,
I have recently accquired a ETRSi system. I tried using the camera with my old Nikon SB22 flash via the sync socket connected to a cable and accessory hotshoe and it worked fine. I received my speed grip about a week ago and mounted the SB22 on the hotshoe but was unable to get the flash to fire. Following that, the sync socket does not work too. Did the onboard electronics shorted itself?

Will it be repairable or is it better to just get another body?

Thanks!
KC
russ_britt3
I guess you tested the cable with the speed grip off the camera? If not try that, if you are lucky it could be a short in the grip?
Have you checked the camera body with a multimeter?
To rule out the flash.....
DWScott
I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions on how to fix it. But I did want to say that I have used my Nikon SB22s on my ETRSi with the speed grip, and not had a problem. So it's definitely an issue with your specific flash/camera combo. :-(
theo_bern
Hello KC,
First of all remove the Hand grip from the camera and test your SB22 with the syncro cord again with the body, flash settings must be to full manual. If it works, then just try the trick I've told you before with the contacts on the bottom of the body and then the contacts on the grip. Flash circuit cannot be fried so easily, unless you did something :) Contact me if you have any troubles.
Thank you.
Theo
kee_choon_goh
Thanks for all the responses. I tried all methods and decided to pay my local repair guy a visit today. The problem was found to be at the lens mount at the middle interface pin at the left side of the body where the x is marked. There is a wire connected to the pin for the shutter in the lens to trip the flash to fire it. The wire broke off and after soldering it back it's working fine now. Many thanks to Russ, David and Theo for the advice which help to eliminate all possibilities of the problem. Much appreciated
j_beede
Good to hear that you didn;t need to buy a new body! I would be curious to know what the charge for that repair was.
