jaydesi
Interesting. lack of a pop-up flash suggests that 7D Mk II would be ruled out.
alan_bryant1
I see two different cameras in those pics. The one on the 200-400mm looks like a 1D X. The one on the 600mm is a smaller camera with a grip; since it has no popup flash I would guess full frame. Or maybe 1.3 crop lives on.
Marcus Ian
That's no speculation, the second camera is clearly a new FF unit. I've never seen that one before, and it doesn't share a control layout with any of the current models (but is similar to a 7D), especially w/ the extra joystick on the BG.

I think that it's very likely that this is one of the the 5D3 /3D ;-) test units. Speculation of course ;-)
nathangardner
Joystick on the vertical shutter and no mode dial... definitely the 1DX.
alan_bryant1
Nathan, only the first of the two cameras is a 1DX. The other is shown clearly in the last photo, and is definitely different from any shipping or announced camera. The controls are similar to 7D controls, the attached grip has a joystick, and there is no popup flash.
dennisgg
Yeah - if you look at picture 6 close up, there is no seam for the pop-up flash.
nathangardner
Oh yes, sorry, I didn't see the other camera. The wide top LCD screams 5D to me. I guess we can start posting more "should I wait for the 5D III or..." threads.
robin_sibson1
Very interesting – and no reason to doubt that it is genuine. This is the first real leak (as distinct from rumour) for a long time. Presumably a 5D-series body, but of course there may still be different prototypes around. It certainly does not look like a "1D-lite", nor yet a 1.6-factor body. The RAW file has now been made available. Here are a few observations.

Mode dial with locking button. No CA mode (hooray) but green-box, now labelled A, is still there (sigh). 7D-style on/off switch.

Rear screen appears to be 3:2. Eyepiece fitting appears to be Type D (as on 7D).

7D-style control layout but ... no blue symbols on right end buttons, so image review is presumably entirely controlled from left. What looks like magnify button on left, no plus or minus. Mysterious RATE (in blue) button. Direct print button has some other blue functionality (what?), and also a white "paintbrush" functionality, perhaps instant custom WB? No sign of Picture Style or RAW/JPEG buttons (hooray). Q button moved to right.
keith reeder
The grip is interesting too - it's got a joystick selector on it, something I really miss from the grips on my 7D and 40D...

A "Memo" button too?
craig_meddaugh
Canon always has dozens of prototypes in the field, most of which are never put into production. So we have some evidence that Canon is field testing a unidentified camera... not tremendously interesting until Canon tells us what it is actually going to produce.
jamie_robertson2

not tremendously interesting until Canon tells us what it is actually going to produce.

On the contrary, I find it really quite interesting. I'm 90% sure the second camera is the 5D3 (or whatever). High MP count and amazing 4K video... that's my wild speculation anyway!
wayne_campbell
"not tremendously interesting"
I disagree. I'm not even a Canon fanatic or a big reader of this forum but I find it extremely interesting.
isaac sibson
There's something extremely interesting about the vertical grip - it is not back loading (like BG-E4, BG-E7, etc) but rather end-loading (like the EOS 1D series). This is the first time that a BG grip has been end-loading.

I guess we will find out February.
