k_michael
Is there any way to use a Nikon SB80DX withe the Nikon CLS system. Right now I have a D700, 2 SB900's and 2 SB80DX's. if the SB80's are useless with the CLS system, I was considering ebaying them.
frank_skomial
" if the SB80's are useless with the CLS system" -Yes for SB80DX.
However, you could use them all outside of CLS in manual flash with optical or radio triggers. Like going back half a century in flash use technology.
howard_owen
You might want to consider hanging onto them even though they aren't CLS enabled -- they're very good flashes. Most strobists tend to used their flashes in manual mode at least some of the time and reliable, cheap radio triggers are easy to come by. Remember too that CLS efficiency will be affected by distance and line of sight, so you may want to consider how you'll be shooting before you pull the trigger on the ebay thing.

Disclaimer: I own 3 SB-80dx flashes. :)
ian_casement
SB-80DX flashes have built-in slave cells. They're easily overlooked, not really CLS, but very useful.
paul_duerinckx
Keep them if you shoot with manual flash. Indoors, as Ian points out, the built in slaves will work with the other lights. They might even work outside if the slave sensors are not being hit by strong ambient light (you can use them with radio slaves anyway). On the other hand, due to the interest in strobism, you might get a better price for them on Ebay than you would have a few years ago when the 80DX was just a fairly obsolete flashgun. I speak as someone who uses 2 SB-80s with my Canon cameras and flashguns.
