jenkins
I know how to cut out images, but when I flatten the cutout image the background becomes white which i don't want as i have to cut it out all over again.

I have saved a file without flattening it so the background is transparent as when I paste it into the new photo I just want it to float, so i can move it around easily.

Is the the best way to select the cutout just copy and then paste into new image, I seem to be getting some background image this way, also I couldn't move it? Was it locked?
peter_cohen
If you've done an extraction and saved without flattening, then you'll have a PSD or TIF with two layers. To place the selection into another file that you're using as a background, open both documents and simply drag the layer with the selection onto the file with the background.

Then, using your move tool, you can place the selection wherever you want on the background.

scott_ferris
Or just copy your selection, open new document and save, it will be on your new document on its own layer.
