This is from the potter's quarters, Kolkata, where they also make clay idols used in Hindu worship. All gods and goddesses are associated with an animal 'vehicle'. The goddess here has a lion as vehicle.

One to add this week - our church recently had a combined service (lots of worshipping communities under our congregational umbrella came together) for the start of Advent. The children got to make some decorations to go on the tree. I got to play too - was nice to mix work and play!

00Zgy9-421507584.jpg.79ec8234288215dcd01cfbd4134f168e.jpg

We lit the town tree Friday night in dry snowless conditions. Lots of people came out for the "Night of Lights" and it was a good time.
.
The snow finally arrived later that night and yesterday there was a cyclocross bike race on the WSC Campus. Perfect 'cross conditions!
Shot Saturday morning just after sunrise on my way to my jobsite, very cold and foggy with freezing fog conditions. Used the kit lens for the first time in ages. Good for lightweight no tripod conditions! Wish Pentax could produce a similar small zoom up to DA* or Limited spec's

Wow! Really nice images everyone. I truly hope everyone is not getting bored with my Canadian summer trip, but there were so many spectacular areas that we hiked. Well, getting near the end and here are three more. #1 Ascending Parker Ridge amonst wildflowers.K10D w/ Tamron 18-250mm / f 11 @ 1/350 / FL 18.0 #2 A view one way. K10D Tamron 18-250mm / f11.0 / FL 18.0 ISO 200 #3 A view the other way.
No way I could ever get bored with that scenery, Bob, but the envy is getting pretty intense ;~) I also like Hin's Thinking Biker, Yury's Cadillac Jack, Chune-Hoong's first. I think Anirban's lion as vehicle is my favorite--it doesn't feel perfectly perfect (too tall, perhaps?) but it grabs interest and sustains contemplation.

This week was the start of the basketball season so I'll be doing a lot of that for the next few months. Last season taught me to be pretty disciplined about picking the shots I want to process and post. I'm pretty happy with the K-5/Sigma 50-150/2.8 set-up but Abe asked me why I wasn't shooting wide open and I think he's right that any loss of sharpness will be more than compensated by a reduced need for NR.

Dave - I know it's the photographer and not the camera, but what a difference from when you first started posting these -wow!
I took my new Rokinon 85mm 1.4 for an outing to the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC; always a good place for people watching and pictures.
The Rokinon lens does have stiff manual focusing, I hadn't realized how used to AF I had gotten until I HAD to focus manually. And also forgot how slim DoF is at f2. My AF lenses (except for macro) are f/4-5.6.
OK, Here's my three.
