Apparently tough enough to survive a year at the bottom of the ocean.</p>

<p>It probably helped that it was plugged into the camera, partially protecting the electrical contacts. Even so, its survival after a year in deep salt water is impressive.</p>

<p>I think I wouldn't be able to resist sending the camera for a repair estimate to Canon. Seeing the response would likely be well worth the shipping cost!</p>

<p>Solid-state memory is very tough, so this isn't uncommon.<br>

My favourite though remains the case of the <a href="http://articles.nydailynews.com/2010-06-17/news/27067471_1_turtle-camera-sea-creature">sea turtle filming itself</a> eventhough here the memory card stayed inside the camera until it was recovered.</p>

<p>It may have been previously posted, but I couldn't find this on either forum.</p>

<p>I personally found it on <em>Blaze</em> (yes, Glen Beck's site, which lifted the story pretty much entire http://www.theblaze.com/stories/is-social-networking-the-ultimate-lost-and-found-tool/ ( I am often confused by the stories covered by the site, and wonder if Glen ever reads his own site? ? ? )<br /> Anyhow, this should be the final bit of evidence in a long-going thread of debates here:</p>

<p>You will note that the camera has a "protection filter" on it. SEE! we told you so! :)</p>

<p>This is also relevant to another long argument. See how much more 'archival' digital is than film! Fujicolor wouldn't have lasted a year under water. ;)</p>
