fernando sanz
hi there,
my wife currently has a Pentax s5i, and I think it's time for a change.

She needs something small that will fit in her bag, very easy to use, good battery life if possible.
Most of the time she'll be taking pics of the kids indoors, so a wide angle would be more useful than a tele; and lighting conditions are not the best.

Money is not an issue, I prefer to buy something expensive that will give good results for a long time.

BTW, I've been out of the "photo world" for quite a while, that's why I'm asking, I've no idea what's out there nowadays.
So, anyone has any recomendations?
Thanks for any input!
luis_g
Canon S95 would fit the above-stated needs nicely.
bill_tuthill
Autofocus is slow, but otherwise the S95, or replacement S100, gives the best quality/size tradeoff. The Fuji X10 yields superior quality images and focuses faster, but has lens that sticks out.
leslie_cheung
Olympus XZ1 intrigues me the most tho the said canon is more compact. The X10`s probably a good choice as well. Samsung TL500 and Panasonic LX5 are both head of the class also.
Gup
A little advice from recent personal experience. Todays' offerings can be quite complex with HD video, moving snapshots, etc. You might want to choose a model that comes with a proper manual as opposed to one provided on a disc or by download. More and more the paper manuals are being replaced by less expensive digital options. In our house the new Canon Elph sits mostly unused because its owner misses being able to sit and study the little book...
fernando sanz
So far the Canon S100 is looking quite good. I'll try to get hold of the Oly as well, see how they feel once you hold them.
Thanks a lot for the comments.
fernando sanz
Back again guys,
believe it or not, the wife thinks that the S100 is a bit too large.

So, which compact would you recommend? In terms of quality.

Thanks again!
phule
Have her take a look at the Canon Elph 100 HS or 310 HS.
photo5
For Thanksgiving weekend, Costco will have the Canon Elph 310HS on sale for $199.99. A steal if you ask me. 12.1MP, full HD 1080p video, includes 4GB SD card and case.
