First picture was done few weeks back. It was a coffee shop and with a small theater upstair. I like the lighting shining upon the stair on the left side of the picture. It was taken in drizzle of rain. The wet weather invited me to take the DA* zoom out in the walk

Second shot was done earlier today in The Tech museum of San Jose where my boys attend a Math Work program for the young minds. The lighting on the blue wall attracts my attention and I had perhaps the wrong lens for the shot. I did quite a number of abstract shots on the same setting in this flickr set

And my 3rd shot was done a while ago in Berkeley Botanical Garden

A great start Hin! I have a new guest since friday for a few weeks until we find a new place to stay. A friend of mine found him very sick and brought him to the veterinarian and safed his life. I have never seen a more emaciated animal but eating and drinking nearly all day he is in much better shape already.

00ZTSS-406947584.jpg.50dc1841e3598c3815efdbb612dbacd5.jpg

This is the 2nd of two mountain hikes in Banff National Park back to back 9,000 footers. Hence, I got lazy and instead of lugging my K10D I opted to use my wifes's Panasonic Lumix. Under the right lighting it takes decent images. #1) Base of Fairview Mt #2) Panoramic view from the top #3) Western Anemenone (Click it)

Hin, I love night shots. Your first one is really nice. You captured the scene very well and I can really feel the mood. The second is something I would not have thought of. Great photo. Very interesting play of light and surfaces. I like it a lot.

Markus, those shots are ridiculously sharp! Wow! I'm loving the root of Carlito's name.

Anirban, this series from Calcutta you have been posting is FANTASTIC. You know I like your work already, but these shots have really been taken to the next level. It could be that Tri-X is my favorite film or that it is so well suited to the subject matter. But I can't say enough good things about your shots lately. The tones, the mood, the composition... they are all excellent for me. Very Salgado in my opinion, which is a high compliment in my eyes.

Yury, I like your ideas. Perhaps some fill flash would bring the exposure up so we can enjoy the colors and details you saw when you took the picture?

Bob Marz, awesome as always. Panasonic should use these for ads to sell the camera.

This is from last week. I had the opportunity to shoot a Filipino wedding.

The hall was very dark. I used two AB800s bounced off the high ceiling to get fill for the room. The reflection off the glass caused the colors from outside to be somewhat muted, but the couple likes them and I think saturating the greenery outside would be a distraction from the couple. There is a little piece of arm from the Maid of Honor on the left, but the print matted and framed covers it up. I printed this to 13x19 and it held up perfectly.

You can see one of my strobes in the background. When I crop it, you see the DJ over the bride's shoulder. It looks better this way in my opinion. For some reason when the crowd is there your eye ignores them better.

Hin: #3 Nice colourful flower you have there. I have the Kiron 105mm macro that I'm ashamed to say I haven't used much.
Markus: Your cats remind me of an uncle of mine (who had 18 furry friends when I last counted). I'm sure Carlito has found a great home!
John W.: Thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm flattered by your comparison to Sebastio Salgado, but I don't think I'm there yet.
Nick S.: #1 The V really caught my eye.

Here are a couple from a Columbus Day shooting expedition with my son, Abe. Much to my surprise, I was able to show him a couple of tricks--it was just like the old days when I knew stuff he didn't ;~)

This was the view from my porch last Friday morning, with a storm approaching from the West.
Tamron 28-75/2.8 @28mm [1/2500s, f/7.1, ISO 800] The shutter speed reflects my determination not to blow out the brighter clouds: the original was a bit dark so a fair amount of pp was required. The result is pretty much what I saw.

What, no clouds where you live? ;~) But, yes, I'm glad the city took F.L. Olmsted's advice to preserve that bit of stream valley wilderness.

I'm glad someone's rescued that cat, Marcus (hopefully, it's not pregnant like the one we took in last year ;~)

Very dynamic shot, Anirban--it's my favorite for this week.

I like the fading hostas, Nick--they get pretty interesting at this time of year.

Highlights:
Hin - the first one is really nice. Great color and the wetness makes it really pop.
Markus - Aw, that's nice. Poor kitty. I hope it works out for him.
Anirban - Another fine shot!
